Grapes: An ever-changing blend which can include Auxerrois, Riesling, Gewurtztraminer, Pinot Blanc and Chasselas. The blend changes each year.
Josmeyer has been run by the Meyer family since 1854 established by Aloyse Meyer, a restaurant owner seeking to capitalise on his father’s work in the wine trade. It was converted to organic and biodynamic culture by Jean Meyer who is credited with elevating the estate to one of the best in Alsace. His daughters Celine and Isabelle run it currently.
Whole bunches of grapes are slowly pressed, and fermentation occurs due to natural yeasts only. Fleur de Lotus ages in either stainless steel or large oak barrels depending on the vintage. This wine is aromatic on the nose and in the glass has tropical, perfumed, floral, lychee flavours. It is not entirely dry and has a honeyed character but at the same time is very fresh. It pairs well with Munster or particularly L’Etivaz.
