1924 is made with a blend of ewes and cows milk at the Fromagerie de Laqueuille, Puy de Dome. 1924 recreates what would've been the traditional Roquefort recipe before it achieved its AOC regulation in 1925.

The AOC dictated that cheese be made from pure Lacaune ewes milk. Historically, farmers in the region used whatever milk they had; some cheeses were pure cows milk - a recipe now known as Bleu des Causses - and some, a mixture of sheep and cows milk. Roquefort today spends most of its maturation in cold fridges, whereas in the early 1900s, they would've been matured at higher temperatures. 1924 is aged at a higher temperature, allowing a natural rind to form and encouraging a savoury flavour profile. Our cheeses are aged at our caves near Roanne, almost 400 miles from Roquefort. A common flavour we detect and enjoy in 1924 is a rich biscuity sweetness, sometimes edging towards white chocolate, complimented by mineral, herbal notes.

Crucial Christmas research

what a beaut!

1924 review

This was our alternative to Stilton for this Christmas and it didn't disappoint. Smooth, creamy, salty and packed with flavour - it was exactly right to go with a nice glass of port. We ordered a selection of five cheeses from Mons, who we hadn't used before, and we were delighted with the choices available and the service. I had left it a bit late to order for Christmas, but they delivered on the 23rd as requested, at nine o'clock at night, so must have been working round the clock to keep their customers happy. As one of those happy customers, we will definitely be back!

Never Disappoints

Only buy this cheese once a year at Borough Market, but sadly could not go up there due to the pandemic. It's the sort of cheese you buy once and never forget, because it is so good. after discovering you could order this online, a large block of it was soon on its way to me, to take down to Devon for my family to try over Christmas. But because of being into Tier 4 and can’t travel, I have got the whole lot to myself. Every cloud……..

Perfect cheese, outstanding service

The cheese was a delight. But I have to mention the service which was out of this world. Unfortunately I was isolating and could not pick up my order, and it was not going to arrive on time for Christmas if sent by post. So these kind people dropped my order round to my house which I cannot thank them enough for. Lovingly packaged and put together, it was the perfect Christmas present.
